FOKO Blog Club : To-do List

We will expose our logistical, financial (due to the internet connexion at very very high rates) and motivational challenges in this page. And hope the solutions we will present will help everybody out (we've also been learning a lot from the other projects !)

By April 2008

  • Finalize the Introduction to Citizen Media translation in Malagasy !! - it's coming. slowly but surely
  • Make at least 2 videos per month   - The Film Your Issue contest give us an opportunity to pass the vidcasting relay to the members now that we have 3 digital cameras and very good training (at loading).
  • Convince more internet users from the Namana Serasera association to join the FBC - The focus group turned up to become a partner! With more Namana helping us to bring new voices like Hery and CPO.
  • Find ways to make members blog outside the FBC hours (at work, from school, at cybercafes) . With no free place to access internet in Madagascar, we chose to distribute connection tickets to the members
  • Give more responsability to the "senior" bloggers during the FBC hours by letting them teach techniques and share tips. Avylavitra, Patricia and Karenichia were already in charge of one workshop and enjoyed
  • Give the FBC Youth ideas for posts and special workshops to learn Photography and Video - Matching schedules was a bit difficult since Youth group have classes but we're looking forward for this summer
  • Plan more outdoors activities and reportages (local artists interviews, etc) - Majunga group was very creative and spontaneous with their blogging, eagirly wanting to show the beauty of their culture !
  • Launch FBC Tamatave group (equipment, tutors, guidelines) - Stéphane needs to return to Toamasina to check on the bloggers and support them technically(!)

  • Launch FBC Mahajanga group (equipment, tutors, guidelines) - Total success thanks toLindsay Redifer's wonderful work.
  • Publish 5 to 10 posts per week - The idea of bringing out a mini-blogging contest came  up to motivate a lot. With the help of the commentors from the blogosphere we hope the flow will sustain.

By July 2008

we realized we've been rushing too fast and being too optimistic about the learning process - even if we managed the workshops very well with 150 blog posts since October 2008

As we were planning to intensify our work we had to stick on the knowledge curve and sustain our activities to keep the level as high as possible.

  • Develop techniques and sustain creativity More and more bloggers are starting to post pictures and exploring new topics on their blogs. The FBC-CPO (UN Club) are blogging more often on their activities, others have asked for our support to start their personal project (Diana for Kamba, another blogger for craft business project, many for webdesign lessons...)

  • Let the FBC Youth lead Workshops with teenagers groups The  leader bloggers are now fully equipped and trained to lead activities on their own and recruiting friends from the many associations.

  • With more and more pro-bloggers willing to help the FBC in Madagascar, find ways to integrate FBC to the blogosphere Many bloggers are now taking part in FBC workshops (sponsoring, training, commenting, helping at activities and now helping us planning the upcoming FBC workshops and events)

By October 2008

  • Expand the FBC Youth to high schools in provinces
  • 2nd FBC Contest for the Best blogger
  • FBC middle-school project at EPP Ilafy

  • Look for cheaper (but good) internet connexion locations most urgent and prioritary challenge to solve in the upcoming weeks because low speed connectivity may drive to more frustration and demotivation
  • Participate to activities with the Rising Voices groups (even with the langague barrier) still in progress
  • Integrate more FBC to FOKO environmental activities still in progress
  • Publish  +20 posts per week still in progress
  • Always find new members for FBC Focusing on the groups where key-bloggers/leaders are taking charge of the trainers work. Diana (Majunga), Patricia (FBC-CPO) and Patrick (Toamasina) showed support to their peers and even made individual achievements on their own.

  • Make at least 4 videos per month The loading shedding in Madagascar cybercafé kept us from putting online the videos produced in April+May+June. This very very frustrating situation made us lose a lot of time, money and energy so we're thinking about new ways to keep the productivity at an high level and not discourage the bloggers.

  • Intensify FBC Mahajanga/Tamatave works the one-month transition after the mini-blogging contest proved us that the groups needed constant support and the presence (by phone calls or by visits) of coordinators on the sites. Stéphane went to Majunga to take after Lindsay and see if new trainers were ready, Tamatave trip is scheduled for June 26th to July 2nd for the same purpose.

By January 2009

  • Integrate the FBC to local Media (particularly in the provinces where there is a serious lack of coverage)
  • Expand to Antsiranana (north) and the southern big cities (Tuléar, Morondava and Fort-Dauphin)
  • Project Citizen Media promotional events in Madagascar
